Jordan's Platina Greeting

Nephew Jordan Greene (Dave's brother, Jeff, and sister-in-law, Heather) came up with this greeting for us all the way from Winnipeg.

2 Guys, a Boat, and 6,000 Nautical Miles
So, just what is 6,000 nautical miles, in Canadian landlubber’s context?
The circumference of the earth at the equator is approximately 21,600 nautical miles. This means we have covered the equivalent of roughly 27% of the earth!
The distance from St John’s, Newfoundland to Vancouver, B.C. (as the crow flies) is approximately 3,000 nautical miles. So, we have sailed from one end of Canada to the other!
Not bad for a couple of guys, a beautiful boat, a little courage, and lots of wind.

Nautical Mile
Many of you have asked, so here it is:
1 nautical mile = 1 minute of latitude. Therefore, each degree of latitude is 60 miles (60 minutes in a degree).
1 nautical mile = 1.852 kilometres.

Hurricanes
We had lunch this week with our former Leuty Ave. neighbour and great friend, Janet Todd, who has lived in Jamaica and recently saw her home there damaged by Hurricane Ivan, sent this poem along for our amusement (?!).
June too soon,
July stand by,
August is a must,
September remember,
October all over.

Great Books?
Dave just finished Dan Brown's "Deception Point" - he describes it as drivel - but then, he enjoys Margaret Atwood. And Kurt Vonnegut.
He has now started Carl Haaisen's "Stormy Weather". How appropriate with the inbound hurricane season?
Please tell us. If you were leaving to cross the Atlantic Ocean for 3 weeks, what book MUST you take?
